AddCal has a plain REST API, so the nodes n8n already ships with do the whole job. There is no community node to install, and it works the same on n8n Cloud and self-hosted. The API is available on every plan, including Free.
1. Create an API token
In AddCal, open your account settings and go to API Tokens (
/user/api-tokens). Create a token and copy it straight away; it is shown once.In n8n, create a Header Auth credential with the name
Authorizationand the valueBearer YOUR_API_TOKEN. Storing it as a credential keeps the token out of exported workflow JSON.
2. Create the event with an HTTP Request node
Method:
POSTURL:
https://addcal.co/api/eventsAuthentication: Generic Credential Type, then Header Auth, then the credential from step 1
Send Body: on, as JSON
Example body:
{
"title": "{{ $json.title }}",
"date_start": "{{ $json.start }}",
"date_end": "{{ $json.end }}",
"timezone": "Australia/Melbourne",
"calendar_name": "Webinars",
"location": "{{ $json.join_url }}",
"description": "Agenda and dial-in details."
}
Anything in double braces is an n8n expression, so you can pull values from the previous node. title, date_start and date_end are required. calendar_name finds or creates a calendar by name; use calendar_uid instead if you already have one. Other fields: is_all_day, has_rsvp, reminder_before (minutes), recurrence_rule (an RRULE string), organiser_name and organiser_email. The full reference is in the API documentation.
The response includes public_url (the event page, where the reader picks their calendar) and a links object with one direct URL per calendar app: google, apple, outlook, office365, yahoo and ics. Pass whichever you need to an email, Slack or SMS node.
Add an IF node on the status code. A 409 means the account has reached its monthly event limit (the body says the limit and how many remain) and, without the check, the workflow fails quietly.
3. Receive RSVPs in n8n (Business)
Add a Webhook node, method
POST, and copy its production URL.In AddCal, open API, then Webhooks, in the sidebar, paste the URL and choose RSVP Created, RSVP Updated or Calendar Subscribed.
Webhooks are a Business plan feature. See Webhooks for the payload and scoping options.
Common questions
Is the API on the free plan? Yes. Free accounts can create 10 new events a month, through the API or the app. See Free plan limits.
Do I need the API at all? If the event details come from a form or a URL and you do not need the response back in the workflow, a Smart Link is simpler: build the URL in any node and open it, and identical parameters never create a duplicate. See Smart Links.
Rate limits? Normal workflow volumes are fine. If you batch thousands of events, add a Wait node between calls.
