Smart Links

Create calendar events automatically from a URL, a button, or an automation tool.

A Smart Link is a single URL that creates a calendar event from the details you pass it. Visit the link (or fire it from a form, an email, a CRM, or an automation tool) and AddCal creates the event in your calendar and syncs it to every connected calendar app. It is ideal for CRM integrations, marketing campaigns, booking confirmations, and form submissions.

Create a Smart Link

  1. In your dashboard, open Integrations and choose Smart Links.

  2. Click Create Smart Link and give it a name.

  3. Choose which calendar its events are created in.

  4. Decide whether to require approval (see below), then click Create.

Each Smart Link gets its own key, used in the link (for example https://addcal.co/s/your-key). You can create as many Smart Links as you like on any plan.

Three ways to use it

  • A URL. Add event details as parameters on the link, then put it anywhere you can use a URL.

  • A button. Drop an Add to Calendar button on your site that creates the event when clicked.

  • An automation tool. Trigger the link from Zapier, Make, or any tool that can call a URL. See Zapier integration.

The easiest way to build one is the Link Builder in the app: fill in your event details, pick where you are sending the link from, and copy the finished URL. It encodes the link correctly for you. For the full parameter list and the button snippet, see the Smart Links documentation. Identical parameters always resolve to the same event, so a link that fires twice never creates a duplicate.

Sending from an email or automation tool

If you are sending the link from ActiveCampaign, Mailchimp, HubSpot, or a similar tool, you can drop merge fields into any field so each recipient gets their own event details. Choose your platform in the Link Builder so those merge fields survive while the rest of the link is encoded.

See Using merge fields with Smart Links and Dynamic Links for the full walkthrough, including why the link needs encoding.

Approval workflow

Each Smart Link has an approval toggle. With it on, every event created through the link arrives as pending instead of going live:

  1. Turn on approval when you create or edit the Smart Link.

  2. Incoming events are held for review on the link's calendar.

  3. Open the calendar and approve an event to publish and sync it, or reject it to discard it.

This lets you automate event creation from a public link while keeping control over what reaches your calendar.

Plan limits

You can create unlimited Smart Links on every plan. The number of events created through them is limited by plan:

  • Free: 5 events, for testing.

  • Premium: 200 events per month.

  • Business: unlimited.

See Free plan limits for the full comparison.
