You can make a calendar invite-only: lock it behind an access code so only people who know the code can view events or subscribe. This is useful for courses, memberships, and any private group. You can also generate time-limited invite links so people can subscribe without ever seeing the code, and block a subscriber to revoke their access.
Access protection is a premium feature. If your team is not subscribed, you will see an upgrade prompt instead of the settings below.
Set an access code
You set the access code when you create or edit a calendar.
Open the calendar's create or edit form.
Expand the Access Protection section.
Turn on Require Access Code.
Enter your code in the Access Code field.
Save the calendar.
Once a code is set, visitors must enter it to view events or subscribe. After someone enters the correct code, their access is remembered on that device for 24 hours, so they will not be asked again during that time.
Change or remove the access code
Open the calendar's edit form and expand Access Protection again.
To change the code, type a new value in the Access Code field and save. Leaving the field blank keeps the current code.
To remove protection, turn off Require Access Code (or clear the field) and save. The calendar becomes public again, and any expiring links you generated stop working.
Share an expiring invite link
An expiring invite link lets someone open and subscribe to a protected calendar without seeing the access code. The link works on its own and stops working after a set number of days.
The Generate Expiring Link button appears in the Access Protection section only after you have saved an access code on the calendar.
Open the calendar's edit form and expand Access Protection.
Click Generate Expiring Link.
In the Generate Expiring Link dialog, set Expires after (days). You can enter any whole number from
1to365. The default is30days.Click Generate & Copy Link. The link is created and copied to your clipboard.
Paste the link wherever you are inviting people (email, course platform, message).
To create a fresh link, open the dialog again and click Regenerate & Copy Link. Each generated link is independent and stays valid until its own expiry date passes.
The link points to the calendar's normal public page and grants access without revealing the code, so you can share it with people you do not want to give the code to directly. Expiring links can also be generated through the AddCal API.
Access code vs expiring link
Access code | A code people type in to unlock the calendar. Share it with people you trust to keep it. It stays valid until you change or remove it. |
Expiring invite link | A ready-to-open link that grants access without showing the code, and stops working after the number of days you set (1 to 365). |
Block a subscriber
If someone should no longer have access, you can block their subscription from the calendar's subscriber list. Blocking stops their subscribed calendar from receiving further updates. For the steps to block (and unblock) a subscriber, see Manage calendar subscribers.
Blocking a single subscriber does not change the access code or your invite links. If you want to cut off everyone at once, change or remove the access code instead, which also invalidates any links you generated.
